According to Quang Tri Customs Department, in the first quarter of 2024, Quang Tri Customs Enforcement Team has detected and handled 70 customs offences with total fine of VND404,76 million.
The Customs has handled 19 violations of buying, selling and transporting without legal documents in customs control area, and the value of infringing goods at VND1.7 billion; 47 customs offences; 4 cases/ 5 subjects for illegal transportation of drugs, including 1.0651 grams of methamphetamine, and 54,000 synthetic drug pills.
Quang Tri Customs realized that the methods of smuggling and illegal transportation of goods is implemented sophisticatedly.
Subjects take advantage of import-export activities, immigration, dangerous areas on both sides of the border gates, trails, border crossings, and movement of border residents visiting their relatives for goods smuggling and transportation.
For example, on the border area of Lao Bao and La Lay border gates, smugglers have remodeled vehicles transporting passengers and import-export goods to hide smuggled goods.
On Route No. 9, the trade and transportation of goods into the inland are implemented in many different methods. They have used motorboats to transport goods along the Se Pon River, hire residents to carry goods across trails and border crossings to outsmart the inspection by the Customs. Smuggled goods have gathered in border residents’ home and loaded the goods on vans, passenger cars, and small trucks to transport to inland.

Responding to the situation, the Quang Tri Customs Department has implemented the guiding documents of the Government, the Ministry of Finance, the People’s Committee of Quang Tri province, and National and local Steering Committee 389 for prevention of smuggling, trade fraud, fake goods and illegal transportation of goods across borders.
The department has coordinated closely with forces such as the Police, Border Guard, and Market Management in effectively combating smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods.
