Cao Bang Customs joins six busts of drug violations

VCN – In the first months of the year, there were no outstanding cases of smuggling and illegal transportation of goods through Cao Bang.

Speaking to reporters on September 5, a representative of Cao Bang Customs Department said that in August, the situation of smuggling and illegal transportation of goods across the border did not see significant developments.

Customs Branches and Customs Enforcement Teams regularly coordinate with other competent forces to strictly inspect and control goods at the border gate, strengthen patrols on both sides, border landmarks inside and outside the management area; take professional measures, research to understand the situation, regularly collect, analyze, evaluate and classify information on suspicious objects in order to apply control measures in a timely manner.

In addition, the authorities strengthen coordination to fight against long-term trafficking and illegal transportation of goods across borders; and prevent and handle the transportation of pigs across the border.

By the end of August, the whole Department presided over and coordinated with others to handle 34 cases with a total value of VND293.3 million of infringing goods, according to Cao Bang Customs Department,

Notably, Cao Bang Customs participated in breaking up six drug cases of drug violations, and seized 1,959,208 grams of heroin and 97,847 grams of opium.

The largest drug-related case seized by Cao Bang Customs in cooperation with other forces took place in March 2022.

Specifically, on March 27, at the group 2, De Tham ward, Cao Bang city, Cao Bang province, the working group of the Drug-related Crime Investigation Police Division (Cao Bang Provincial Police), Drug and Crime Prevention and Control (Cao Bang Provincial Border Guard Command), Customs Enforcement Team (Cao Bang Customs Department) worked with De Tham ward police to catch La Duc Thuan (born in 1967, residing in Trung Khanh town, Trung Khanh district, Cao Bang province) for illegal drug trading. The seized exhibits included five packs of heroin weighing 1,761.19 grams. Thuan had three previous convictions for drugs.

Through investigation, La Duc Thuan admitted that the above drugs were given to Thuan by Dam Quang Hien (born in 1988, residing in Ngoc Xuan ward, Cao Bang city) to sell for profit.

Expanding the case, on March 28, the competent forces executed an emergency search warrant at Dam Quang Hien’s residence in Ngoc Xuan ward, Cao Bang city. Through the search, the officers discovered and seized 191.08 grams of heroin, two portable electronic scales, three mobile phones and a number of other related items and documents.
