The delegation was led by Ms. Ogawa Eri, representative of the Japanese Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City and Mr. Naito Yasuaki, intellectual property officer of JPO in Southeast Asia, Director of the Intellectual Property Department – JETRO Bangkok as representative.

At the meeting, the two sides exchanged many contents related to the enforcement of IPRs in Vietnam. Deputy Director Do Thanh Quang and the leaders of the Customs Control Team, Anti-smuggling and Violation Handling Department introduced the JETRO delegation to the legal policy regulations, the system consolidation programs, the capacity building programs, the difficulties and obstacles in the process of implementing the anti-counterfeiting and IP infringement prevention work; some cases detected by the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department recently.

The representative of JETRO also pointed out the fraudulent and infringing tactics methods related to IPRs, signs of counterfeit and IP infringement products of Japanese enterprises on the Vietnamese market today; at the same time, they requested the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department to support solutions to detect and prevent these violations in order to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Japanese enterprises and Japanese goods in the Ho Chi Minh City market in particular, and the Vietnamese market in general.

Agreeing with the sharing of the JETRO representative, Deputy Director Do Thanh Quang said that Vietnamese people love and trust Japanese goods because of their good quality, smart features, easy to use and safe for health. The Deputy Director also suggested many solutions to propose the units of the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department to coordinate with the JETRO organization to implement in the coming time to limit trade fraud, as well as infringe intellectual property rights, promote the prevention and fight against counterfeit goods, goods infringing intellectual property rights at the border gate as well as in Ho Chi Minh City.

Deputy Director Do Thanh Quang also emphasized that, in the past, the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department has always paid attention to the work of combating smuggling, trade fraud as well as the work of combating counterfeit goods, infringing intellectual property rights in the area under Department’s management. The Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department will proactively coordinate with JETRO as well as Japanese enterprises to make efforts to prevent violations, ensure a healthy competitive environment for enterprises with import and export activities in general and Japanese enterprises in particular in Ho Chi Minh City.

At the work meeting, the two sides agreed to cooperate in the future to promote the exchange, cooperation, and learning of experience in managing goods with the most effective measures to ensure the non-infringement of IPRs; at the same time, it helps the specialized units of the Customs Department of Ho Chi Minh City and the whole Customs sector to constantly improve their specialized skills in detecting counterfeit goods and violation of IPRs at Ho Chi Minh City particularly and across the whole territory of Vietnam generally.

JETRO representatives have expressed their gratitude for the warm reception and valuable information shared by the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department and Deputy Director Do Thanh Quang. In the coming time, JETRO hopes to continue receiving the cooperation, support, and assistance of the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department in the fight against counterfeit goods and intellectual property infringement in Vietnam. This collaboration aims to further enhance the comprehensive trade relationship between the two countries.
