This is a modern retail model formed from an alliance of two leading cooperatives in Vietnam (Saigon Co.op) and Singapore (NTUC FairPRice). The Co.opXtra model has become a symbol of the most successful cooperation in the international cooperative movement and is also proof of the good trade cooperation relationship between the two countries.

10 years ago, in May 2013, the first Co.opXtra hypermarket model of Saigon Co.op was officially opened and put into operation at Linh Trung Street, Thu Duc District (now Thu Duc City), Ho Chi Minh City. Up to now, Co.opXtra has developed a system of selling points located in Thu Duc City and the busiest districts of Ho Chi Minh City (District 7, District 10). The average area of each selling point is 10,000 m2 or more. Co.opXtra is the perfect piece for Saigon Co.op to cover every corner of the market, serving all types of customers.

In addition to 80% of domestic goods, Co.opXtra strongly develops the business sector of FairPrice products imported from Singapore and many famous imported brands from countries such as Korea, Japan, the US, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Every year, through a joint venture with NTUC Fair Price, Co.opXtra exports from 200-300 tons of domestic goods including agricultural products (banana, dragon fruit, cantaloupe, bell pepper, pepper, cooking oil); seafood (shrimp, pangasius fillets) to the Singapore market, bringing the total export value of Saigon Co.op to nearly VND 70 billion in 2022 alone.

Co.opXtra system has been diversifying domestic and imported business items to serve customer demand. By the end of 2030, Co.opXtra aims to develop 1-2 more supermarkets per year in Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country and diversify sales channels, both direct and online to fit the transition era.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Duc, General Director of Saigon Co.op, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Saigon Co.op Fairprice Co., Ltd., Chairman of Vietnam Retailers Association shared: “Co.opXtra’s 10-year journey has proven an important role in the development of Saigon Co.op, and it shows that the Vietnamese retail market is vibrant with a wide selection of goods and services for different customer segments. Going beyond the joint venture among the two entities, Co.opXtra is a symbol of the good diplomatic relationship between Vietnam and Singapore and proof of the most successful cooperation of the international cooperative movement”.
