The turnover and revenue from import and export activities plunged in the first quarter of 2023.

According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs on April 3, the revenue from imports and exports in March reached VND33,476 billion.

In the first quarter, the Customs sector’s revenue decreased by 17% to VND 91,267 billion compared with the previous year, meeting 21.5% of the estimate.

In the month, the total trade in goods is estimated to increase by 18.6% to US$ 58.49 billion compared with a month ago. The export turnover and import turnover is estimated to rise by 13.5% and 24.4% to US$ 29.57 billion and US$28.92 billion, respectively.

Vietnam’s total import and export turnover in the first quarter is estimated to fall by 13.3% to US$ 154.27 billion compared with the same period in 2022. Export turnover and import turnover drops by 11.9% and 14.7% to US$ 79.17 billion and US$ 75.1 billion, respectively.

Vietnam’s merchandise trade balance in March is estimated to have a surplus of US$645 million. In the first three months of 2023, the whole country estimates a surplus of 4.07 billion.
