Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the second half of November 2022

The Vietnam Customs Statistics announced that in the second half of November, 2022 the total Vietnam’s exports of US dollars 15.32 billion and imports of nearly US dollars 13.36 billion resulted in a trade surplus of US dollars 1.96 billion. Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the second half of November was over US dollars 28.68 billion, up by 1% as compared to the first half of November. In 11 months of 2022, Vietnam was in trade surplus of USD 10.68 billion.

Vietnam‘s trade-in-goods in the first 11 months of 2022 totaled US dollars 673.7 billion in value terms, up by 11.8% as compared to the performance of the same period of last year.

In the view of Foreign Direct Invested (FDI) traders, the total value of exportation and importation in the first 11 months of 2022 reached USD 468.7 billion, up by 12.1% in comparison to the same period of 2021.

Export:

As compared to the first half of November-2022, second half of the month increase in the total export value (12.4% – USD 1.69 billion equally) is reflected by upturn in computer, electrical and part thereof (up by 43.4% – USD 725 million); machine, tools and equipments (up by 13.8% – USD 245 million equally; irons and steels (up by 100% – USD 157 millions)…

Totally, in the first 11 months of 2022 total export value from Vietnam was USD 342.19 billion, up by 13.4% as compared to the same period of 2021 (equivalent to USD 40.5 billion in absolute value terms).

Import:

The first half to second half of November shrunk in the total of import value (9.6%) reflected downturn in crude oil (up by 61% – USD 374 million); irons and steesl (up by 37.7% – USD 186 million equally); telephone, mobile phones and part thereof (up by 17.3% – USD 183 million equally).

From January to second half of November-2022, total import value into Vietnam was USD 331.51 billion, went up by 10.1% as compared to the same period of 2021 (equivalent to USD 30.42 billion in absolute value terms).
