The forum held by Customs News is an event to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam Customs (September 10, 1945 – September 10, 2022).

At the Forum, Director General Nguyen Van Can expressed gratitude to representatives of ministries, departments, sectors, international trade associations, corporations, organizations and businesses during the past time, especially in the years of reform and renovation of Vietnam Customs, which have always accompanied the Customs sector to step up the path of reform and modernization on par with customs of other countries in the world.

According to the General Director, Vietnam has an open and extensive economy, and many free trade agreements have been signed with countries. As a result, most of Vietnam’s goods are in most markets worldwide.

Therefore, Vietnam Customs has always determined to ensure the fulfillment of the responsibilities assigned by the Government in the Customs Law and the tasks assigned by the Ministry of Finance to perform the state management of customs. At the same time, performing the role as the standing body of the National Steering Committee on ASEAN Single Window, National Single Window and Trade Facilitation; standing agency of the National Steering Committee against Smuggling, Trade Fraud and Counterfeiting (National 389 Steering Committee).

The General Department of Vietnam Customs leader said that the Customs sector has made a lot of progress in modernizing customs procedures and tax payment procedures and providing maximum support for logistics activities. However, compared to the requirements of management and development and the target set by Vietnam Customs, it still has not kept up with import and export turnover, with free trade agreements and the advantages of Vietnamese goods.

Therefore, in the coming time, the Customs sector will continue to reform and restructure the modern customs management system in the direction of regularity, on par with the customs of advanced countries worldwide. From there, moving to Smart Customs, Digital Customs, then to Smart Borders, Green Customs, following the principles and purposes of World Customs, as well as the determination to direct the Party, State and Government and the Ministry of Finance assigned the task to Vietnam Customs.

“Especially, with an internet-connected device, businesses can carry out customs procedures anytime, anywhere, 24/7, anywhere in the world via a smart customs system. This system is also connected with related management agencies, warehouses, ports, transportation, logistics, so businesses can check where their goods are, how the progress is within 3 minutes at the latest”, the Director General informed.
