HCM City Customs earns over US 120 billion in trade

VCN – Although imports and exports have been plunged due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, HCM City Customs Department has conducted customs clearance for goods with double-digit revenue growth.

According to the leader of HCM City Customs Department, amid the 4th outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, as the leading role in the economic front, the entire department has quickly responded and performed flexibly, and issued a plan to maintain smooth customs clearance 24/7 to support businesses and stabilize supply chains and recover the economy during and after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Department has advised the leaders of HCM City to propose the Prime Minister to apply a specialized mechanism for imports for pandemic prevention and control, and ask the General Department of Vietnam Customs to apply urgent measures to remove and solve congestion at Cat Lai port.

The department has also proposed the local government to allow apply a specific mechanism for Customs to arrange an appropriate proportion of officers working at the headquarters and maintain customs clearance 24/7.

Motivated by effective solutions and the strong recovery of imports and exports, the total trade in goods at the department as of December 20 rose 10% to US$123 billion.

As of December 31, the total import and export turnover is estimated at US$128 billion.

As of December 23, the Department saw a year-on-year increase of 12% to VND115,000 billion, meeting 107% of the target. It is estimated that on December 31, the revenue will hit over VND117,000 billion.
