Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the second half of June 2022

The Vietnam Customs Statistics announced that in the second half of June, 2022 the total Vietnam’s exports of US dollars 17.76 billion and imports of nearly US dollars 15.6 billion resulted in a trade surplus of US dollars 2.15 billion. Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the second half of June was over US dollars 33.36 billion, up by 5.4% as compared to the first half of June-2022. Furthermore, in the first 6 months of 2022, Vietnam was in trade surplus of USD 446 million.

Vietnam‘s trade-in-goods in the first 6 months of 2022 totaled US dollars 371.32 billion in value terms, up by 16.4% as compared to the performance of the same period of last year.

In the view of Foreign Direct Invested (FDI) traders, the total value of exportation and importation in the first 6 months of 2022 reached USD 255.82 billion, up by 16% in comparison to the same period of 2021.

Export:

As compared to the first half of June-2022, second half of the month increase in the total export value (17.5% – USD 2.65 billion equally) is reflected by upturn in computer, electrical and part thereof (up by 44.2% – USD 941 million); telephone mobile phones and parts thereof (up by 37.9% – USD 699 millions); machine, tools and equipments (up by 11.4% – USD 216 million equally); textile and garments (up by 11.6% – USD 196 million); foor-wear (up by 14.1% – USD 156 million)…

Totally, in the first 6 months of 2022 total export value from Vietnam was USD 186.03 billion, up by 17.3% as compared to the same period of 2021 (equivalent to USD 27.46 billion in absolute value terms).

Import:

The first half to second half of June shrunk in the total of import value (5.6%) reflected downturn in crude oil (down by 49.6% – USD 232 million); coal (down by 19.1% – USD 121 million); plastics (down by 13.8% – USD 81 million).

From January to second half of June-2022, total import value into Vietnam was USD 185.29 billion, went up by 15.5% as compared to the same period of 2021 (equivalent to USD 24.86 billion in absolute value terms).
