Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the second half of December 2022

The Vietnam Customs Statistics announced that in the second half of December, 2022 the total Vietnam’s exports of US dollars 15.31 billion and imports of nearly US dollars 13.19 billion resulted in a trade surplus of US dollars 2.12 billion. Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the second half of December was over US dollars 28.5 billion, up by 3.3% as compared to the first half of December-2022. Furthermore, in 2022, Vietnam was in trade surplus of USD 12.4 billion.

Vietnam‘s trade-in-goods in 2022 totaled US dollars 730.21 billion in value terms, up by 9.1% as compared to the performance of last year.

In the view of Foreign Direct Invested (FDI) traders, the total value of exportation and importation in 2022 reached USD 506.83 billion, up by 9.3% in comparison to 2021.

Export:

As compared to the first half of December-2022, second half of the month increase in the total export value (12.4% – USD 1.69 billion equally) is reflected by upturn in machine tools and equipments (up by 26.3% – USD 431 million); computer, electrical products (up by 16.3% – USD 360 million equally); textiles and garments (up by 12.1% – USD 165 million)…

Totally, in 2022 total export value of Vietnam was USD 371.3 billion, up by 10.5% as compared to the same period of 2021 (equivalent to USD 35.14 billion in absolute value terms).

Import:

The first half to second half of December shrunk in the total of import value (5.6%) reflected downturn in crude oil (down by 66.6% – USD 326 millions equally); machine tools and equipments (down by 11.7% – USD 220 million equally); petroleum products (down by 39.3% – USD 205 million); …

From January to second half of December-2022, total import value into Vietnam was USD 358.9 billion, went up by 7.8% as compared to 2021 (equivalent to USD 26.06 billion in absolute value terms).
