Customs handles over 1 200 violation cases in October

VCN – According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs (GDVC), the smuggling and cross-border transportation of goods in border gates decreased compared with the previous month but tricks of smugglers and the nature of violation cases are increasingly sophisticated.

The GDVC has inspected shipments of gifts and donations at the cargo terminal of ALS Cargo Terminal Joint Stock Company. These goods were transported from Russia to Vietnam.

Customs detected many drugs used for Covid-19 treatment, Covid-19 rapid test kits, and drugs used in cancer treatment. These drugs have not been licensed by the Ministry of Health.

From September 16 to October 15, the Customs sector has handled 1,218 violation cases with infringing goods worth VND228 billion, collected VND18,566 billion, prosecuted three cases and transferred seven cases to other agencies.

For example, on October 1, Son La Border Guard coordinated with Dien Bien Customs discovered two suspects trafficking drugs. The competent forces seized four packs of heroin and 1,600 tablets of synthetic drugs.

On October 3, Nghe An Police and Nghe An Customs Department detected a suspect illegally storing drugs, and seized 404.87 grams synthetic drugs.

On October 6, the Anti-drug Enforcement Team under Ha Noi Customs Department coordinated with the Investigation Police Department on Drug-related Crimes (PC04) and the Northern Drug Enforcement Unit (Team 5) to inspect a shipment transported from Belgium to Hanoi and found 3,986.40 grams of MDMA.

Earlier, on September 23, Customs detected five packages of two suspects on flight QR976 from Qatar to Noi Bai. The Import Cargo Customs Procedures Team coordinated with the PC03 of the Ministry of Public Security and Ha Noi City Police to conduct a physical inspection and discovered 26 pieces of rhino horn with a total weight of 9,345.72 grams.

On the same day, La Lay Border Gate Customs Branch coordinated with the Central Anti-Smuggling Enforcement Unit, La Lay International Border Guard Station and the Drug and Crime Control Department to detect a company that hid wood inside a container.

The infringing goods include 5,993m3 and 16kg sawn timber, suspected of being Techicai Sitan Wood and 71,377 m3 and 105 kg of Rose wood, originating in Laos.

On October 6, 2021, HCM City Customs Department coordinated with the Anti-Smuggling and Investigation Department to inspect a shipment of frozen whole blood cockles imported by Vietseatrust Food Import and Export Co.,Ltd

As a result of inspection, the undeclared goods include 505kg of dried seahorse, 120kg of Manta ray gills, 100kg of dried Hai Long fish, 30kg of animal horns (suspected of being buffaloes and cows), 40 kg of spare parts for motorcycles and cars, 87 kg of wood, and 100 cartons of frozen whole squid. The total value of infringing goods is about VND2 billion.
