Preliminary assessment of Vietnam international merchandise trade performance in the second half of January 2022

The Vietnam Customs Statistics announced that in the second half of January, 2022 the total Vietnam’s exports of US dollars 17.68 billion and imports of nearly US dollars 14.65 billion resulted in a trade surplus of US dollars 3.03 billion. Accordingly, the total value of export and import turnover of Vietnam in the second half of January was over US dollars 32.34 billion, up by 16.6% as compared to the first half of January-2022. Furthermore, in thr first month of 2022, Vietnam was in trade surplus of USD 1.4 billion.

Vietnam‘s trade-in-goods in January 2022 totaled US dollars 60.29 billion in value terms, up by 9.6% as compared to the performance of last year.

In the view of Foreign Direct Invested (FDI) traders, the total value of exportation and importation in January 2022 reached USD 41.57 billion, up by 6.1% in comparison to 2021.

Export:

As compared to the first half of January-2022, second half of the month increase in the total export value (34.6% – USD 4.54 billion equally) is reflected by upturn in computer, electrical products (up by 52.6% – USD 856 million equally); telephones, mobile phones and part thereof (up by 42.1% – USD 783 million equally); machine tools and equipments (up by 45.2% – USD 645 million); textiles and garments (up by 41.8% – USD 617 million);

Totally, in January 2022 total export value of Vietnam was USD 30.84 billion, up by 8.1% as compared to the same period of 2021 (equivalent to USD 2.3 billion in absolute value terms).

Import:

The first half to second half of January widen in the total of import value (0.4%) reflected upturn in telephones, mobile phones and part thereof (up by 15.9% – USD 148 million equally); wheats (up by 20 times – USD 105 million equally); computer, electrical products (up by 2.6% – USD 91 million equally);

In Jauary, total import value into Vietnam was USD 29.45 billion, went up by 11.3% as compared to 2021 (equivalent to USD 2.98 billion in absolute value terms).
